Directions
Driving directions from San Jose - Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO): Head West on Highway 1 out of San Jose for approximately 20 minutes until you see a right hand turn that with signs pointing you in the directions of towns Atenas-Orotina-Jaco. This right hand turn can sneak up on you and if you are not paying attention you will drive right by it. Be on the look out for the big Highway signs. After this right hand turn there is a stop sign and more highway signs which point you to the left. From this point you will travel over a curvy mountain pass with beautiful vistas and coffee plantations. Please take your time on this road because there are a lot of steep hills and curvy turns. After traveling Approx. 30 minutes you will come to the small town of Aguacate. Continue on this main road and you will soon reach the small town of Atenas. From Atenas follow signs to Orotina. Orotina is the halfway mark to Quepos and the town of Jaco is only about 30 minutes form here. Along the highway in Orotina there are numerous little restaurants and snack stands so this town makes for a great rest stop. Once you leave Orotina you have about an hour and a half until you reach Quepos. From Orotina the highway is nicely paved and there are plenty of of highway signs to easily guide you to Quepos. About 20 minutes After Jaco you will be getting close to a town called Paritta. There tends to be many pot holes so be careful and drive with caution.. Once you have entered the town of Quepos and have gone over the small one lane bridge there is a road that goes by the Ocean side and another that goes into town. Take the road that leads into town and after 200 yards you will see a small street sign pointing you in the direction of Manuel Antonio. Take a left hand turn here and follow this road. You will see a small building on your left named Yara Plaza and still following the same road about 50 meters on your left is the gate of the Gaia Hotel & Reserve.
