Top 3 reasons to stay at the hotel:
-
Fabulous location. Order a cappuccino and sit on the roof terrace while watching a truly local vegetable market unfurl in the street below you; beautiful colours, hardened sellers, impatient teenagers; a cat stealing the fish. And all without the hassle of getting down and dirty! After breakfast overlooking the Saadian tombs, take a taxi or stroll to the D’Jemaa.
-
A haven of tranquility. The roof terrace with loungers, plants and billowing drapes is a relaxing place to unwind. By day, storks and swallows, minarets and green tiled roof tops; at dusk, the illuminated lanterns cast an exotic and romantic light.
-
The staff are smiling and serene and just want to help everyone. We were often the last to leave – breakfast, coffee, lunch and dinner. There was never a sigh or rolling of the eyes. The international lunch and dinner menu is certainly worth loitering over.
Overview:
Unlike some riads in the medina, you can drive to the entrance of La Sultana, which is so much better than walking through side streets with a guide after a frazzling journey.
Arriving by taxi just inside the medina, in a blur of people and mopeds is still slightly daunting, but let’s face it, that’s why you’re here! Just a few meters down its own little lane is the door into a world of shady peace and serenity. This is what a riad in Marrakech is all about and La Sultana delivers it wonderfully. Since it is five riads joined together maybe it is five times more calming and five times more evocative! Everywhere you look in La Sultana is another representation of Morocco; stunning stonework, plasterwork, fretwork, lanterns, zellij, antiques, flowers and courtyard fountains. Even if a spa treatment is not your thing – just go and look at it! You can really get all your Marrakech arty photos without leaving the hotel. But it sets the scene for what is outside the hotel and spurs you on to tackle the teaming medina of Marrakech safe in the knowledge that the quietly attentive staff of La Sultana are waiting to welcome you home, to your riad!
