Things to do
The whole Serengeti National Park is one epic landmark in itself. In the south you’ll find low lying grassland, with huge collections of wildebeest. The centre is more rugged, and you’ll see goats and wildlife adept at climbing the cliffs. And if you want to truly escape off the map, the north offers the Grumeti River with hippos and giant crocodiles. In this area you might be lucky enough to spy a Patas Monkey.
While you’re here you’ll obviously want to take a safari, and you can arrange one from your luxury hotel. But how you travel is up to you. By land is one alternative, but you can also take a hot air balloon to look down on the plains and spot wildlife from on high.
The Serengeti is on the fringes of Lake Victoria – Africa’s largest lake – where the area’s wildebeest tend to gather. The image of hundreds of animals sipping water along the shore as the sun begins to set is a staggering sight.
