Mystery Inspector's Reviews

What's this?

Top 3 reasons to stay at the hotel:

  1. This is the place to stay if you want to see the great migration in the Serengeti. Thousands upon thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra following the rains and moving north.

  2. Don’t be put off by the accommodation being described as ‘tents’. These are luxurious in almost every sense. Set on the side of a hill, overlooking the Serengeti plains.

  3. The staff were superb – helpful, friendly, considerate and most obliging.

Overview:

This was our second visit to Kirawira – so it must be good.
After a long and tiring flight from Europe via Dar es Salaam, there was a very warm welcome at the local ‘bush’ airstrip. We were offered the opportunity of a game drive on the way to the camp but declined and were so pleased to find some cold liquid refreshment waiting. The staff greeted us like long lost friends, particularly Charles (he and a number of others had been at the camp on our previous visit six years ago) and that set the tone for the rest of our stay. The tents were comfortable and clean and situated in a superb situation. Sit on the veranda in the evening and watch the game below and the sunset on the distant horizon. The restaurant was excellent. A very comprehensive menu was available for breakfast, lunch and dinner but if the guest wanted something special, the chef was most obliging. Like all wildlife safaris, the game can be unpredictable – some days much better than others but there is always something to see, something new to photograph and something new to learn. Apart from the migrating animals, there was as expected, the following lions and hyenas and the waiting crocodiles. Not without its excitement! Overall, a good safari experience with time to relax by the side of the recently constructed swimming pool (not found at all safari lodges) in between the game drives or enjoying the hospitality in the bar and restaurant at the end of the day. Thank you.

Mystery Inspectors explained:

Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) places great emphasis on its inspection process and believes in the importance of using 'real' guests rather than retired hotel inspectors to provide a valuable assessment of the hotel, its facilities and the quality of service provided. Enlisting guests in the quality control programme not only enables SLH's customers to be directly involved in the process but allows the hotels to shape operations based on their guests' opinions and experienced insight. As far as the hotel is concerned, this means that every hotel guest is a potential inspector.
