The Cauquenes Resort & Spa (
www.slh.com/cauquenes) provides you with a comfortable and warm atmosphere to return to after exciting excursions around Ushuaia. The area’s tours last for hours, so you might be on a boat for 5 – 8 hours in the Beagle Channel, or on a bus/boat excursion to see the penguins for the greater part of the day. Even the train trip tour to 'The End of the World' begins right after breakfast and doesn’t return until just prior to dinnertime. Thus, the hotel becomes a sanctuary that provides a peaceful place to relax between outings.
The public rooms are comfortably furnished and of a size that is personable. I would always prefer to hang out in those areas than in the privacy of my room. If I wanted to be alone, I could sit by the window and enjoy a glass of wine. If I wanted to talk to other guests, it was possible to sit on the terrace in the lounge where others would gather.
Los Cauquenes’ restaurant, Reinamora has an excellent menu, although it did not change in the four days of my stay. The offerings included seafood, salads and meat dishes. All were excellently prepared and delivered promptly. Breakfast was plentiful and had cold and hot offerings.
