Things to do

NATURE

Guanacaste is home to an incredible range of national parks covering a huge variety of terrain. You could walk over volcanic slopes past bubbling mud pools, through a protected tropical dry forest, or explore underground cave systems. For the chance to see native wildlife including anteaters, iguanas and capuchin monkeys, take a tour of Diria National Park.

BEACHES

Many visitors find the lure of Guanacaste’s beaches impossible to resist. Smooth white sand stretches for miles around the region’s luxury beach resort. Or you could venture off the beaten track to discover secluded, rocky coves. Many beaches in the region are also important nesting sites for huge marine turtles.

SPORT

Guanacaste’s varied landscape makes it a popular region for active holidays. Tour stunning national parks on horseback, or venture out and explore miles of hiking trails. The exceptional beaches that fringe the peninsula boast many world-class surf spots.

Corn is a common ingredient in traditional Guanacasteca refreshments. Try ‘horchata’, a warming, corn-based drink spiced with cinnamon.
