Top 3 reasons to stay at the hotel:
-
Beautiful historic hotel with classic library (lounge), Frederick Olmstead grounds, lovely stone work and patios. Pretty in the “mid season”, must be gorgeous later!
-
Delightful staff who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable while the hotel (only 10 rooms) was pretty much taken over for a rehearsal dinner. Not that we were too bothered about the other party taking place - but Paula set a couple of chairs aside in the entrance way where we could have a drink and hear the piano player without intruding on the group celebrating in the library. A nice touch!
-
Location—perfect for skiers or mountain bikers as it is less than 2 miles from Okemo and I believe the affiliated Pointe at the bottom of the hill runs a shuttle to the area in high season. Also for the less athletic, there are many nearby VT covered bridges and the wonderful Vermont Country Store about 10 miles away in Weston!
Overview:
We very much enjoyed the hotel having a particular fondness for historic hotels...
This one had been the home of a former governor of Vermont, Allen Fletcher. It sits atop a hill from which you can see Okemo Mountain and other VT mountains. The dinner was lovely and the 81 year old piano player was excellent. The rooms (public and private) have charm and character. The spa in the carriage house is good with pleasant personnel.
