Directions

Although the great majority of the lodge's guests use flight and boat transfers to get to Bloomfield, it is also possible to drive there. Anyone planning to drive will need to rent a 4 WD. Driving time is approximately 4 1 / 2 hours from Cairns. Guests drive to Bloomfield wharf on the Bloomfield River where the lodge boat will meet them for the final short journey to the Lodge. The meeting time will need to be arranged direct with the lodge at least 24 hours prior. Lockup sheds are available for parking.

Transportation

Bloomfield Lodge is a remote resort. Please note the transfers from start to finish are completely governed by the tides of the Bloomfield river, and in the wet season the passibility of the 4 wheel drive track, which is a dirt road. Our timings for our transfers are done quite precisely by the Lodge Managers given the above factors.

By Air – Guests are flown into Bloomfield daily, on a scheduled flight departing Cairns airport at 9am.The approximate total journey time from Cairns international airport is 90 minutes and an adventure in itself: From Cairns International Airport take a 10 minute transfer by car to the Hinterland Private Terminal. Here you check into the VIP lounge and board your privately chartered plane for the scenic 30 minute flight up the dazzling Queensland coastline landing at the Mount Louis airstrip just north of the Bloomfield Lodge, where it is met by our guides. You are then picked up by a 4 wheel drive and it is then a 10 minute outback drive to the shores of Weary Bay where you board a riverboat from Ayton wharf. It is then a 20 minute gentle cruise downriver and across the bay before disembarking at the Bloomfield Lodge private jetty where you are personally greeted and taken to your room. All rates include all mentioned transfers and are arranged by the hotel once they receive your reservation details. Hotel will fax guest the exact departure times for air transfers, however flights usually depart Cairns at 09:00 am and depart Mount Louis Airstrip at 11:00am. Baggage - Due to aircraft size, baggage is restricted to one small bag per person of around 7 kg. The informal dress code at Bloomfield means that travelling light does not usually cause any inconvenience. You should arrange to leave your main baggage with the concierge at your hotel in Cairns if possible, otherwise it may be stored at the Hinterland Aviation terminal in Cairns. Please ensure that you bring all items of a personal nature with you as lack of road access to the Lodge means that regular supplies other than food and drink are restricted.
