Important Announcement

Following our update in October last year informing that the hotel will be closing to carry out non-urgent cosmetic repair work from 10 April 2012 we are now able to advise you of our scheduled re-opening date. The hotel will re-open all areas - accommodation, restaurants, public areas and conferencing - on Friday 8 June 2012. The slightly longer period of the closure is due to the extent of the renovations we plan to carry out. We regret not being available for this period, but look forward to continuing our mutually beneficial relationship and to welcoming your valued clients back to The George from June onwards. Our Reservations and Conferencing teams will continue to be on site throughout the hotel closure during normal business hours to accommodate your forward booking requests.

A stylish urban sanctuary within easy walking distance of Christchurch centre, The George Hotel Christchurch is a welcoming and wonderfully comfortable place to stay. Expect innovative cuisine in two superb restaurants, impeccable service and works of art by some of New Zealand’s finest contemporary artists.

Streamlined, white leather chairs contrast with slick parquet flooring in the public rooms while The George Hotel’s 53 spacious rooms are decorated in soothing neutral tones with those all important special details. The atmosphere is one of chic elegance but specifically designed with relaxation in mind.

Following a leisurely breakfast on the terrace of 50 on Park Restaurant, wander through Hagley Park making sure to visit the Botanic Gardens. Then head for lively Cathedral Square or for a spot of adventure, arrange a balloon or helicopter flight for a bird’s-eye view of the sea and mountains surrounding Christchurch. Return to the hotel for a sublime dinner at The George’s signature restaurant, Peascatore.

Caring Luxury

As part of the local and international community The George understands that its actions impact those around us as well as the larger environment. As such, we have made a commitment to Caring Luxury which involves initiatives to reduce our impact on the natural environment, help charitable organisations where possible, and support local artists and suppliers. Some of our actions developed naturally, for example, The George has been involved in helping various charitable organisations for numerous years. Other actions are driven by a desire to protect what we hold dear, for example, our ongoing commitment to reducing our impact on the natural environment has triggered management and employees to develop many initiatives to ensure we do our part in helping New Zealand remain the clean and green country we are proud of. Furthermore, as evident by our New Zealand Art collection The George has for many years been a keen supporter of local artists. What is perhaps less known is that we also strive to source local products and utilise the skills of local craftspeople for our furniture and refurbishments. We are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our footprint and to help the wider community and evidence of our actions can be viewed on our website.
