Blanket Bay Hotel

Overlooking Lake Wakatipu on New Zealand’s South Island

Renowned as one of the world’s best hideaways, Blanket Bay Hotel is superbly isolated and the perfect spot for a romantic break. Set against the stunning backdrop of the snow-capped Humboldt Mountains and sitting on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, this delightful lodge, with its impeccable standard of cuisine, is a truly comfortable base from which to explore the Milford Sound region of South Island.

Finished in New Zealand timber and stone, the rooms and suites are divided between the main lodge and separate chalets. Each one is a sanctuary of comfort. Expect polished wood, fine fabrics, elegant rugs, stone fireplaces and panoramic decks or terraces to sit and enjoy in the astounding mountain and lake views.

The best way to see the coastal fiords and Milford Sound is by helicopter. Stand on the mountain tops, touch a glacier and visit the isolated west coast beaches. Return for a relaxing soak in the spa pool overlooking the lake. Have dinner on the outdoor terrace in front of the vast outdoor fireplace and under a clear sky full of stars.

Leisure

It has been called the "Eighth Wonder of the World". Only from above will you begin to appreciate the dramatic scenery and grandeur of this unique part of New Zealand. Starting from the Blanket Bay Helipad this spectacular 2 hour flight takes you over the Greenstone Valley, Milford Track and the Sutherland Falls. A short stop in Milford is followed by a flight to the mouth of the sound along rugged West Coast Beaches and inland over remote alpine lakes and glaciers. Jet Boat on the Dart River: It's more than a jetboat ride - it's a World Heritage eco-journey into the heart of wilderness New Zealand. Navigating deep into the alpine corridor of Mount Aspiring National Park the challenging grandeur of the mountains and valleys will leave a lasting impression. Step into a horse riding landscape second to none in New Zealand. Our privately guided rides take in the beach at the head of Lake Wakatipu and across our very own Wyuna High Country Station where just you and your horse share this magnificent farm with the cattle and deer and the occasional wild goat. Longer rides take you to the Scheelite Mines high above the lake into The Richardson Mountains
