What's this?

Top 3 reasons to stay at the hotel:

  1. The location of Blanket Bay really has the “wow factor”! It sits in splendid isolation on the banks of Lake Wakatipu, 45 minutes drive from Queenstown. Every bedroom and all main public areas look directly across the stunning Lake Wakatipu to the mountains and it is difficult to take your eyes off this scene. Even the outdoor swimming pool takes advantage of this panorama with a huge window in the perimeter wall so that you can gaze out while swimming. The indoor Jacuzzi also makes the most of this view and is available for use 24 hours a day. This is one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand and Blanket Bay gives you easy access to a great variety of serious or short walks and climbs or just sight-seeing in the area. The Southern Alps with their glaciers are easily reached by helicopter as is Milford Sound and Fordland and there are a number of most excellent vineyards within easy driving distance.

  2. The accommodation at Blanket Bay is superb. The bedrooms are exquisitely furnished with huge picture windows to make the most of the lake and mountain vistas and large armchairs to sink into while you gaze at the view. The large bathrooms have underfloor heating and in the suites, the shower can become your own steam room. Nothing has been overlooked here so that your comfort is ensured from the mini bar, snacks and specialty teas, the iPod docking station, music channels and television should you want them. The lounge sports possibly the largest windows you have seen to maximize the impact of the scenery again as well as being superbly furnished with several different areas to sit and enjoy the log fire and the view or to read and relax. The dining areas and the bar are equally special.

  3. Dining at Blanket Bay is a culinary delight. Your taste buds are first tickled by the canapés which accompany pre-dinner drinks in the bar suggesting that dinner is sure to be something special. Dinner does not disappoint and is a 5 course a la carte menu which ensures local produce is cooked with great finesse and presented to show it at its best. There is an excellent wine list of both local and European wines and the accompanying service is just right. Breakfast and lunch were of an equally high standard, breakfast offering an excellent range of continental buffet and cooked selections, the latter being quite innovative.

Overview:

Blanket Bay is one of those very special places that you know you are not going to find very often and you feel privileged to be a guest there.
Its location and range of activities cannot fail to please everyone and the all-inclusive tariff is excellent value. The staff are very pleasant and helpful while being perfectly professional.

We received an upgrade to a chalet suite which was just superb. The main room was huge with amazing views of the lake and mountains. There was a walk-in wardrobe and a beautiful bathroom with a steam room in the shower. Nothing had been forgotten in the room to ensure your perfect stay but I have no doubt that had we wanted something that wasn’t there, it would have been found.

The manager has exceptional local knowledge and spoke to all of the guests in turn during breakfast to assist with individual arrangements for that day. He made phone calls to vineyards, advised on routes and timings and made sure an early lunch was ready for us to enable us to make the airport on time.

Blanket Bay is an exceptional place and it is a real treat to stay there!

Indescribable beauty, out of this world personalised service ....This is hands down the best place I have ever stayed. I have nothing but good things to say.

My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights in a Lodge Suite in late January. I've stayed at many great properties around the world, but this was one of the best all-around experiences I've ever had. I would go back immediately without hesitation.

Mystery Inspectors explained:

Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) places great emphasis on its inspection process and believes in the importance of using 'real' guests rather than retired hotel inspectors to provide a valuable assessment of the hotel, its facilities and the quality of service provided. Enlisting guests in the quality control programme not only enables SLH's customers to be directly involved in the process but allows the hotels to shape operations based on their guests' opinions and experienced insight. As far as the hotel is concerned, this means that every hotel guest is a potential inspector.
