INTRODUCING SHOAL BAY

Close your eyes and imagine the perfect Caribbean beach. The chances are you’re picturing Shoal Bay in Anguilla. Icing sugar sand and an easily accessible reef make this collection of three boutique resorts a haven for sun worshippers and divers alike. But it still feels like a well-kept secret. Embark on a luxury getaway here, and discover the beach retreat that sets the standard for all others.

White sand, turquoise seas and multi-coloured coral reefs: a tropical dream come true.

Things to do

BEACHES

A curved ribbon almost 2 miles long, Shoal Bay East is renowned as Anguilla’s finest beach – and one of the best in the world. Stretch out on your sun lounger and relax, moving only to grab an ice cold drink. As the sun sets, the beachfront comes to life, with many bars and restaurants offering live music. Just up the coast you’ll find quieter Upper Shoal Bay, where a handful of eateries line the whitest sand in the Caribbean. Last but not least, Shoal Bay West is a peaceful patch that you’re likely to have to yourself.

WATER

With the pale sand beneath the water, the sea of Shoal Bay is a dazzling blue. On a calm day, strike out over the surface on a paddleboard. Or don your snorkel to discover a coral reef just off shore, teeming with colourful tropical fish.

DAY TRIPS

If you can tear yourself away from the beach, this region has some interesting sights to discover. Visit Island Harbour to watch Anguillan fisherman bringing in the catch from brightly painted boats. Or take an exhilarating speedboat tour over to neighbouring St. Maarten, landing in the Dutch capital, Phillipsburg. Stroll around the largest lagoon in the Caribbean, Simpson Bay, or treat yourself to a spot of designer shopping.

Pack a picnic and head to Shoal Bay West for spectacular snorkelling. The sand here contains small fragments of red shell, giving it a subtle pink glow.
