Things to do
A curved ribbon almost 2 miles long, Shoal Bay East is renowned as Anguilla’s finest beach – and one of the best in the world. Stretch out on your sun lounger and relax, moving only to grab an ice cold drink. As the sun sets, the beachfront comes to life, with many bars and restaurants offering live music. Just up the coast you’ll find quieter Upper Shoal Bay, where a handful of eateries line the whitest sand in the Caribbean. Last but not least, Shoal Bay West is a peaceful patch that you’re likely to have to yourself.
With the pale sand beneath the water, the sea of Shoal Bay is a dazzling blue. On a calm day, strike out over the surface on a paddleboard. Or don your snorkel to discover a coral reef just off shore, teeming with colourful tropical fish.
If you can tear yourself away from the beach, this region has some interesting sights to discover. Visit Island Harbour to watch Anguillan fisherman bringing in the catch from brightly painted boats. Or take an exhilarating speedboat tour over to neighbouring St. Maarten, landing in the Dutch capital, Phillipsburg. Stroll around the largest lagoon in the Caribbean, Simpson Bay, or treat yourself to a spot of designer shopping.
