Top 3 reasons to stay at the hotel:
-
This eco-style hotel has a beautiful open air lobby with a view over the tree tops to the ocean. The dining room adjacent to the lobby also has no walls – just that beautiful view. Both are lovely places to enjoy the warm climate without burning in the sun. A refreshing breeze blows quite constantly under the high ceilings. The architecture is stylish and in fitting with an eco-lodge. The small but attractive infinity pool on the grounds adds a touch of glam.
-
The outdoor spa right now is just one pavilion in the forest by a burbling brook. However plans are to expand it to include changing rooms, more spa treatment areas and so on – all open air but with roofs to keep out rain and sun. It’s a peaceful setting, so unique and in keeping with the eco theme.
-
The Barahona area is unspoiled by tourism and close to national parks, the Larimar mines and much for the eco-tourist. The hotel property has put in zip lines and offers horseback riding. They can also arrange for eco-adventures off property – well worth doing.
Overview:
Formerly a private summer house, now after major renovations it’s a boutique hotel. The main lobby and the al-fresco restaurant offer spectacular panoramic views and are tastefully and artfully furnished. The food is authentic and flavourful – the real deal. Fish is fresh from local fishermen and traditional Dominican dishes such as sancocho soup are clearly deliciously made with love by the long time chef (the former cook for the family who own the place). Surrounded by forests and farmers, you can see and hear herds of goats in the morning, the roosters crowing and local kids playing. Plans are grandiose to put in upscale two storey villas, expand the recreation area and spa as well as do much more landscaping. At this point it’s a rustic retreat with upscale public areas. You can fill your days with visits to the Larimar Mines high up in the lush mountains (a semi precious blue stone unique to the DR) , eco-tours of the parks and reserves and lazy times on the beaches.
