Introducing Oia

Look up at Oia from the sea and this enchanting village seems to defy gravity. This is the perfect blend of creative yet classical Cycladic architecture, with traditional white dwellings carved into the rocky slopes of the caldera. Endless sea views, a vibrant collection of chic boutiques and restaurants, and small, heavenly hotels add up to a spellbinding spot for a luxury escape.

Things to do

CULTURE
Set out from your exclusive hotel and spend the day wandering around Oia. There are plenty of art galleries to explore, boutiques to browse, and cafes in which to while away an hour or two. Or go in search of the island’s ancient history at the small yet fascinating Museum of Ancient Greek Music. This unique collection features instruments dating back almost 5,000 years.

DAY TRIPS
The cliffs of Oia slope down to the deep, clear waters of Amoudi Bay. To escape the town for a day, you could climb down to the tiny fishing harbour and take a boat tour out to Thirasia. Many come here to enjoy superb views of Santorini – either from the cliff path, or while sipping a drink in a harbourside taverna.

NATURE
While in Oia, slip on your walking shoes, pack a big bottle of water and set off on the cliff-top hiking trail towards Fira. The path winds up and down the slopes, through tiny settlements including some made up of traditional island cave houses. Take time to rest and enjoy inspiring views all the way along the caldera.

Top Tip from SLH

To see Oia’s legendary sunset in all its glory, take a private boat tour out into Amoudi Bay and watch the sea, sky and cliffs blaze with colour.
