Cosmopolitan Suites is located in one of the many ‘quaint’ old passageways of Fira, the capital of Santorini.
Walk through the hotel entrance and you will leave behind the hustle and bustle of the town and enter a quiet sanctuary with the most amazing view of the Caldera. Guests are greeted by the Manager, Vasso, a most gracious hostess with a welcome glass of champagne.
The suites are well appointed and comfortable and are set around the pool with great views over the caldera and beyond. Breakfast is served on your own terrace/balcony or in your room and substantial snacks are available around the pool throughout the day. In the evening, watch the sun set over the caldera while enjoying a truly superb cocktail of your choice. The ever helpful and conscientious staff are always available to tend to a guest’s every need, be it providing refreshments, information on shopping or restaurant recommendations – and they will then make the reservation ensuring you have the best table available!
All guests are provided with a cell phone on arrival, in case you want to make reservations or need to get directions at any time, just a touch of TLC since you're a stranger in a new town.
My wife and I were coming from another SLH property, which was kind enough to forward our bags to
Cosmopolitan Suites (free of charge) so we could spend the day exploring the island and discovering beaches (instead of lugging our bags, dealing with check-in, etc.). When it came time to ‘call it a day’ we rode our quad back towards Fira, however as I’m terrible with directions I got us lost. When I called the hotel to ask for directions (for the second time) the manager told me to stay where I was and actually walked about 10 minutes to meet us and guide us back to the property. This gave us a good first impression that we were going to be taken care of while staying at
Cosmopolitan Suites.
When we finally arrived the check-in process was so warm, courteous and thorough I was worried that Vasso knew that I was the ‘mystery inspector’ – but after watching the manager welcome other guests in the same fashion I soon realized this just happens to be an SLH property in the hands of a skilled manager. It definitely pays to become an SLH Club member before staying at this property: Vasso and Nikoli actually took the time to read and remember my preferences posted to my personal SLH account, we received a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh fruit, and best of all – even though we only paid for a standard room, Vasso upgraded us to ‘her favorite room’ a spacious suite with a great view of the volcano! If you like having a lot of space, and don’t mind sharing a balcony, ask for room number 7.
Before leaving us to relax Vasso also gave us a mobile phone to use during our stay with the instructions that we are to call her anytime, for anything, anywhere on Santorini. And we did, whether it was for advice on which beach to visit (try Monolithos for unspoiled nature), where to have dinner (try 1800 in Oia), or the best street to watch the sunset (near the old castle in Oia) – Vasso was always there to pick-up the phone and give us her best insider’s knowledge of the island (she has lived for 7 years after all).
I could keep going on about the service, but I think you get the point. Here is one final piece of advice based on our personal experience: you will probably have dinner in Oia one night after watching the sunset. It is a beautiful location with many restaurants that have rooftop tables – but don’t skip a good restaurant (like 1800) just because you can’t get a table with a view. Once the sun goes down it gets very dark and you can’t see anything anyway. Don’t think you’re missing out just by eating indoors.
