‘Zagori’ means ‘beyond the mountains’ which sums up this area’s charm perfectly. Hidden away from the rest of Greece, it has its own unique culture, and is home to stunning landscapes, including the 990-metre deep Vikos Gorge.

Uncover a hidden landscape, with deep gorges and ancient arched stone bridges.

Things to do

Across the 48 villages of Zagori are an incredible number of taverns and cafés, but you’ll find that the standard of food is consistently excellent. Many serve the traditional delicacy of Zagori pies, with meat cooked in earthenware – and there’s usually plenty of ouzo available too.

Zagori is a real outdoor adventure playground, with everything from mountain biking to rafting and kayaking on offer. The rugged terrain is much loved by mountain climbers, and you can also try your hand at parachuting here too – perhaps starting with a tandem flight.

Weaving is a traditional craft in Zagori, and you can watch weavers at work or try your hand at the loom yourself. The Rizarios Exhibition Centre in Monodendri also showcases traditional handicrafts from the region.

The Vikos Gorge is a breathtaking feature, but be prepared for it taking six to eight hours to walk through. Remember, you can also view it from pretty Vikos village.
