Things to do
The thick defensive walls around Buonconvento originally only had two openings, thick wooden doors that had to be manoeuvred by hand. The walls are still standing, and once inside you’ll find a number of grand palazzos as well as unexpected Art Nouveau architecture.
La Sagra della Val d’Arbia is a week-long festival that takes place every September. Time a visit to Buonconvento to experience lively music, beautiful art and, of course, plenty to eat and drink.
People say the architecture and buildings of Buonconvento are reminiscent of Siena, so it’s no surprise that this must-see city is a short drive away. The black and white façade of Siena’s cathedral is a must. And if you visit in the summer you’ll see the locals preparing for the Palio – a thrilling horse race around the central square.
