Things to do
The church of San Giovanni Battista dates back to at least 1032 and is a striking example of Romanesque architecture. It’s a beautifully simple building that is well worth a visit on a stroll out from your luxury hotel.
Pievescola is in the heart of Tuscan wine country, and you’ll find plenty of local reds and whites on the menu when enjoying a spot of fine dining. The Terre de Vini is a shop worth visiting if you want to bring some local produce back with you. Browse local boutiques for bottles of Chianti, and extra virgin olive oils, too.
Pievescola may be tucked away in the Tuscan countryside, but the thrills of Siena are just a 10-minute drive away. The black and white cathedral is a must, even if you only have time to gaze at the exterior. And if you’re here in the summer, watch the local teams prepare for the frenetic horse race known as the Palio.
Come to Pievescola in early September for an extraordinary event. The Sagra del Fungo is a festival dedicated to the locally grown Porcini mushroom – and you can join in with dancing and sample mushroom-based dishes.
