ABaC Restaurant awarded by the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy as Best Restaurant of the Year 2011

ABaC Restaurant has been awarded as the best restaurant of the year, an award which is delivered every year by the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy to cookers, restaurants, professionals, groups and institutions related to the Catalan gastronomy world, that had stand out during 2011 in Catalonia.

Barcelona, December 16, 2011.- Last night in Barcelona were announced the Annual National Awards by the Academy of Gastronomy. The awards are given every year to those chefs, restaurants, professional groups and institutions related to the world of Catalan cuisine, which throughout the year have succeed in each of the following sections: best restaurant, best young chef, better professional and special Academy award.
The academic members of the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy have voted in secret throughout the year. Awards given were:
RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR AWARD: ABAC (Jordi Cruz)
YOUNG CHEF AWARD: Marc Gascón (The Tinars, Llagostera)
PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD: Pau Arenós (El Periódico de Catalunya)
GASTRONOMIC EVENT AWARD: Restaurants against Hunger
SPECIAL AWARD: Fundación Alicia (Sant Benet de Bages)

With these awards National Academy of Catalan Gastronomy wants to publish the award-winning recognition for its work throughout the year in the area of each of the sections in place. In addition, these National Awards of Gastronomy are a commitment with Catalan cuisine, cultural heritage of our country, the identity of which is to preserve, support, promote and disseminate.
The Gala Awards of the Catalan National Academy of Gastronomy 2011 will be held on April 2012 in Barcelona.
The gastronomy is the fundamental axis of the project. ABaC Restaurant & Hotel and his restaurant is now awarded with 2* Michelin. This elegant restaurant and hotel in Barcelona, located at No. 1 Avenida Tibidabo is a gem of a dining and one of the most exclusive places in the city.
Since April 2010, when Chef Jordi Cruz started as head Chef, the restaurant began a new stage that has let us to gain the recognition of the prestigious red Guide for 2012.
Chef Jordi Cruz his brilliant career took him to gain a Michelin star at his restaurant L'Angle (Sant Fruitós de Bages) just few months after the opening. Previously, he became the youngest Spanish Chef awarded with a star of the prestigious French guide at the restaurant L'Estany Clar (Cercs - Berga). In 2006 he won the first edition of Chef of the Year and currently acts as vice president of the jury for the event. He has also published the book "Logic of Kitchen" and he is currently preparing his second book.
His cuisine is defined as evolutionary and restless, based on the product and meets both, creativity and tradition. As he said "is based on tradition and creativity in equal parts; I work with fresh top and natural products. I've been seventeen years in the kitchen and at this time I have developed my own style”.

The 5*GL ABaC Restaurant & Hotel, Monument is a unique gastronomic experience. Set in the very heart of Barcelona, surrounded by gardens and greenery, the hotel is a fusion of 2 architectural styles. The new crystal pavilion is joined with the centennial building, recently refurbished to protect its historical and architectural value.

The hotel offers 15 luxurious rooms, including suites. All rooms enjoy a vanguardist design, are completely soundproofed and are fitted with state of the art technical features to ensure maximum comfort.
The restaurant can seat up to 60 diners and is decorated in natural tones. The oval tables allow you to take pleasure in the garden, while enjoying your dining experience
The kitchen of 200 m2, has been designed by Joaquim Casademont and may be visited by the guests of the hotel.
Other dining facilities include a breakfast room, where private dinner or lunch can be served, or the “Lounge Bar”, which opens until 2.00 p.m. and where the music, light and color of the room subtly change. There is also an extensive cellar, offering more than 900 references, and from which you can select your perfect wine.
Meeting rooms and a complete Spa leaded by the luxury British spa and skincare brand Elemis offers a wide range of treatments, and completes the services of ABaC.

Michelin released yesterday November 24th in Barcelona, the new edition of the Spain and Portugal Michelin Guide 2012'. ABaC Restaurant received a second star, in recognition of Chef Jordi Cruz and ABaC team.

The interior design or ABaC Restaurant & Hotel was carried out by GCA Architects Associates, with Mr. Josep Riu leading the project and Mrs. Beatriz Cosials and team. This is a set of two buildings, one existing, former home of Dr. Andreu, that after the refurbishment contains most of the bedrooms, and another new plant, where are the other bedrooms and the restaurant.
The project of the interiors’ design has developed all spaces of the building under a single criterion, which are both rooms and public areas of the hotel, the restaurant and outdoor furniture.
ABaC Restaurant & Hotel 5GL Monunent offers 15 luxurious rooms, including suites. All rooms enjoy a vanguardist design, are completely soundproofed and are fitted with state of the art technical features to ensure maximum comfort.
