  • Castle Howard

    One of the most beautiful houses in England, famous of course for it's part in the TV adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. Over 1000 acres of breathtaking Yorkshire parkland and landscaped gardens.

  • Helmsley Castle

    Built as a formidable fortress against the invading Scots, the castle has awesome defensive earthworks and a new visitors centre. Walking distance from the hotel.

  • Rievaulx Abbey

    Walkable from the hotel but three miles through Ryedale, Rievaulx was the first Cistercian Abbey to be founded in Northern England. Abbott Saint Aelred's 800 year old description "everywhere peace, everywhere serenity and a marvellous freedom from the turmult fo the world" still holds true today.

  • Duncombe Park

    Stunning 18th Century gardens with majestic views over Ryedale. There are also way-marked walks through 450 acres of parkland and all just a stone's throw from the hotel.

  • The Helmsley Walled Garden

    A short stroll from The Feversham Arms, this magical hidden garden has surprises round every corner. The towering walls surrond five acres of busy kitchen gardens, producing hundreds of varieties of organic fruit and vegetables. Have a picnic on the lawns or stroll through the romantic scented borders.

    Something different this unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises in a four-acres garden in the heart of the Dales. The Temple of the Underworld, The Eye of the Needles, a huge glass pyramid...the kids will love it

  • RHS Garden Harlow Carr

    The North's premier botanical garden takes in around 58 acres on the edges of Harrogate. This showcase of horticultural excellence combines informative displays with peace and tranquillity. Matthew Wilson formar curator of Harlow Carr has designed our Spa Garden at The Feversham Arms Hotel.

  • Cycling

    The Yorkshire Moors and surrounding landscapes offer some of the best cycling in the UK, including The White Rose Cycling Route and the Moor to Sea Cycling Route. You'll find these sites useful: www.sustrans.org.uk www.forestry.gov.uk www.moortoseacycle.net Dalby Forest is only approx 30 mins from The Feversham Arms, with fantastic walking, cycling, picnic, childrens play area and lots more! There are many off road cylcing routes where you dont see a car for miles. Great for the family as a whole, mountain bike hire from the hotel can be arranged - just ask.

  • North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway

    The famous steam railway - recreated and run by volunteers – has played it’s part in Heartbeat and Harry Potter. Trains run regularly from Pickering to Grosmont, stopping at Levisham, Newton Dale Halt and Goathland. You’ll find out more – including a timetable – on www.northyorkshiremoorsrailway.com

  • Racing

    Here in Yorkshire we have some of the country's finest racing. York, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby, Catterick and Redcar are all less than half an hours travel from Helmsley, and Doncaster and Beverley are easy to reach too.   • Walking

    Every room at The Feversham Arms Hotel Yorkshire is equipped with a copy of a Pathfinder guide to walks on the North Yorkhire Moors, which you are welcome to borrow. It contains a variety of well-described and mapped walks for all ages and levels of enthusiasm. There are also a number of lovely walks that can be taken directly from the hotel without getting back into your car. Copies are available at Reception. Helmsley is the start of The Cleveland Way and is in the heart of great walking country, with plenty of variety, including some along the coastal paths around the edge of the North York Moors and others that present spectacular views over the valleys below the Moors.

  • National Railway Museum

    Discover over 300 years of history and over a million wonderful objects. Marvel at the record-breaking Mallard, watch engineering work in progress in the Workshop, see locomotives moving on the turntable, or let off steam in the outdoor play area. Entry is free

  • Jorvik Viking Centre

    Everything in JORVIK Viking Centre is based on archaeological evidence unearthed during the Coppergate excavations undertaken between 1979–81 by York Archaeological Trust.

  • Harrogate

    Harrogate is a Yorkshire spa town to the south east of the Yorkshire Dales, famous for its tea shops, flower shows, turkish baths, antique shops and the Harrogate International Conference Centre. The town is also famous for its associations with the great english crime novelist Agatha Christie, who 'disappeared' here for a few days in the 1930s. Spend a few hours in the perfectly preserved Turkish Baths before browsing the many boutiques and antique shops. Finish off your afternoon with a cream tea in Betty’s – a Yorkshire institution!

  • Sutton Park

    The home of Sir Reginald and Lady Sheffield, a fine example of early Georgian architecture. A frequent winner of Yorkshire in Bloom, the gardens seem to attract more visitors than the house. Walled pool garden, Edwardian fernery, nature trail and woodland walks.

  • Thorp Perrow Arboretum and Woodland Garden

    The creation of just one man, Colonel Sir Leonard Roper Bt, this stunning arboretum covers 85 acres of woodland walks. Also home to The Falcons of Thorp Perrow.
