Choose Langshott Manor for a quiet get away as it is so conveniently located.
Don’t expect there to be dozens of eager staff to look after you as this is a small hotel and run by a small team, who seem to come out of the woodwork just at the right moment when you need them. The hotel is a small house with a series of small lounges leading off the hall. It then leads on to the Mulberry Restaurant which is popular with the locals it seems particularly for Sunday lunch I hear. The terrace is divine, with such a lovely tranquil feel from the manicured gardens on one side, to the duck pond on the other. The vista is enchanting. Take tea, or even better, enjoy a full afternoon tea in the sunshine and relax the day away. We arrived at lunchtime and ordered a bottle of excellent South African wine from their comprehensive list. The sun shone (in February!!) and it was truly an enjoyable start to our stay.
The bedroom accommodation was sumptuous and every bit the standard expected of a SLH property. Well appointed, well furnished and immeasurably comfortable.
On balance, this is a hotel that ticks the boxes for what it is. Small and luxurious. Enjoy!
This was an ideal venue for a single night away, close to London, to celebrate a birthday. Hopefully our normal conduct combined with our alibi did not give us away as inspectors.
Langshott Manor (
www.slh.com/langshott) was wonderfully private and self contained. The staff were charming. The whole place was spotlessly clean, and apart from a couple of pieces of tatty carpet, immaculate, which is difficult in a part Elizabethan building.
The room to which we were upgraded was a cameo of a classic old fashioned luxury bedroom with four poster bed, and even a curtained bath. The wall covering in the bathroom intrigued us, and will be discussed with the architect who has just masterminded considerable work on our house. The light was pretty poor for reading, but who wanted to dwell there when a log fire beckoned in the lounge. The chef is to be congratulated on the quality and choice of his/her menu, and the wine list, while extensive, yielded an excellent bottle of Beaujolais (apologies for my mundane taste!). The quietness at night was rare, especially so close by an international airport.
This property is truly an unexpected gem – and a most worthy member of SLH, as it is genuinely small and luxurious. Thanks and well done to all who made this such a pleasant experience, and such an easy inspection report to complete.
Yet, it was not perfect. Failure to make the early morning call – meant that I did have to give it one low mark among all the 4s and 5s. However, it is a truly excellent, classic SLH hotel!
