Velassaru is a short 20 minute speedboat hop from Male.
If you get lucky with immigration you can be walking down the jetty of the resort within 30-40 minutes after stepping off the plane! Very convenient and means that your relaxing can start all the sooner (and go on all the longer – the same applies in reverse such that it means you can leave later for getting to your departing flight).
Once you’ve arrived you’ll find the island a good ‘middle sized’ island by Maldives standards – big enough to stretch your legs on a stroll from one end of the island to the other but not so far that it’s a chore if your room is one of the furthest from the restaurants.
Each room has a personal Nespresso coffee machine and a good selection of flavors/varieties of capsules, replaced daily – a welcome start to the day.
The resort has a lovely main arc-shaped infinity pool – perfect not only for a cooling dip but also for getting those picture postcard Maldivian sunset photographs for your friends to be envious of on your return home!
The spa is in a lovely location set out over the water. If you are not quite able to stretch to staying in a water villa then this is great way to have some of that experience without the cost as there is a nice private mini-infinity pool which you will have the use of before/after your spa treatment. There are also ‘couples’ treatment rooms if you want to share the experience with your other half.
If you are a fan of the sand, then it is worth paying that little bit extra for a Beach Villa over the Deluxe Bungalows (or, if you are lucky enough to be an SLH member, asking for the room upgrade if available) – the former have direct access off your terrace straight onto the beach which is perfect for a morning swim.
All the essential elements of a stay in the Maldives are here and it’s all done in a modern and comfortable style at Velassaru.
