Mystery Inspector's Insider Tips

Last inspection: 04 October 2009

Mystery Inspectors explained:

Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) places great emphasis on its inspection process and believes in the importance of using 'real' guests rather than retired hotel inspectors to provide a valuable assessment of the hotel, its facilities and the quality of service provided. Enlisting guests in the quality control programme not only enables SLH's customers to be directly involved in the process but allows the hotels to shape operations based on their guests' opinions and experienced insight. As far as the hotel is concerned, this means that every hotel guest is a potential inspector.

Top 3 reasons to stay at the hotel:

  1. The Kitchen Garden. Take a gentle stroll to the hotel’s kitchen garden at the bottom of the grounds. You’ll see a wonderful array of fruit, vegetables and herbs just right for picking by the restaurant team there – a real treasure trove for whetting your appetite.

  2. Attention to detail. Key to any great service experience, the hotel staff thought of everything including tea candles beside the bath (as specified in our SLH profile), and a very detailed turn-down service at night including a pillow spray to help induce sleep!

  3. Save room for breakfast. The breakfast menu has the hearty favourites you’d expect, plus some great alternatives such as corned beef and poached egg, porridge with whisky and loads of buffet options.

Overview:

The Bath Priory Hotel, Restaurant and Spa has a country house feel yet is so close to the city centre. Staff are clearly focused on providing top-notch service in an under-stated and welcoming manner. Rooms show a deft touch of interior design, and innovative Michelin-starred food in the restaurant adds a refined sparkle in the evening. The newly-refurbished spa provides a luxurious 'escape within an escape' and the grounds including a 'secret' kitchen garden offer a peaceful outside setting for further relaxation.

Development Director's Background Briefing

Development Directors explained:

Before a hotel can join Small Luxury Hotels of the World, an SLH Development Director visits the property so that its accommodation, dining and leisure facilities are all experienced first-hand. The hotel is then put forward to the SLH CEO for approval, and final approval is given by a member of the Board of Directors. The quality of our brand is only as good as the quality of our hotels and we're passionate about seeking out the very finest small independent hotels in the world.
