The Cauquenes Resort & Spa in Ushuaia has started the process to shortly obtain the international certification of sustainable tourism BIOSPHERE HOTEL, granted by the Institute for Responsible Tourism (ITR). This nonprofit organization, member of the World Tourism Organization, is based in Spain and sponsored by the UNESCO after the World Conference on Sustainable Tourism held in Lanzarote in 1995.
The hallmark of sustainable management of RTIs BIOSPHERE HOTEL recognizes the efforts of the hotels that have made their commitment to sustainable tourism the axis and center of their operation and are therefore examples of hotel establishments which are responsible for the social, cultural and environmental impact that their operation has on the area.
BIOSPHERE is up to now, the only international recognized certification by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), a United Nations organization working towards establishing global criteria for sustainable tourism.
As a Biosphere hotel, Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa will prove to ITR auditors the implementation of a sustainable management that minimizes its impact on the environment, with an operation that promotes social and economic development of the local community, offering guests a different and quality product, based on the maximization of the tourist experience through the integration of visitors to the environment and knowledge of the values of the destination.
With this certification, Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa will be placed at the level of those establishments and hotel chains worldwide which are committed to sustainable tourism, becoming at the same time the first hotel of Argentina to achieve this prestigious award.
