Comments about Queenstown, New Zealand Blanket Bay:

This was the most dramatic location of any place we stayed during our 4 + weeks in NZ. Our room looked out on the sweeping lawn/fountain area and lake which was circled with spectacular mountains. It just doesn't get any better. We determined Blanket Bay was so perfect that we opted to scrub our adventure plans and take a vacation from our vacation and just relax and enjoy the views. We were told there were walking "trails" going in either direction along the lake shore but found them to be unpleasant - either sand or rocks. If you want to hike, I am sure there are better places to hike than right around the lake shore. We enjoyed the happy hour which included interesting appetizers as well. Dinners were always excellent and particularly well presented. One night we ate outside with the fireplace behind our backs. While it was not needed, there were blankets and outdoor heaters should it get too cool. The highlight of our stay was having a private dinner in the Wine Cave which was lit with a multitude of candles. Very romantic and special.

      • Top tip for other guests:
      • Be sure and book ahead for dinner outside (weather permitting) and/or in the Wine Cave. If you eat outside, be sure and put repellant on (including your ankles) to keep those sand flies at bay.
