Having just spent a week at this hotel, we are conscious that all SLH properties are not necessarily of the same standard. Whilst , on arrival , there was nobody to help us to transport luggage from the taxi into the hotel, the staff were generally always pleasant and helpful.
Decorated in an extreme , contemporary fashion, maybe too much effort has been put into the "Quirky" aspect. Our De-Luxe room was very comfortable, with a well-appointed bathroom and a worthwhile amount of space for storing clothes. This week was just part of a three-week vacation, and we have yet to master "travelling light"! Closets and drawer space satisfied our needs. The room was very sound-proof as long as all windows were kept closed. On the back of the hotel, our room had a small balcony. Our initial reaction was positive until we realized that we were located just a few feet away from the loading-dock and staff-entrance of a large chain hotel. It seemed as if delivery trucks and recycling vehicles were on the move constantly. We therefore only used the balcony to check the morning weather. Once the doors were closed, we never heard any noise from outside or from adjacent rooms, which allowed for a good sleeping environment.
Breakfast was monitored by a very pleasant, and possibly over-worked staff. However the public areas in which it was served were furnished in a way that did not lend itself to a comfortable experience. The low tables were surrounded by once over-stuffed upholstered seats , and a multitude of cushions. This arrangement might be pleasant for a lounging experience, but it was somewhat difficult to arrive at and depart the table with dignity . The stained upholstery was evidence that guests had failed to transport their breakfast directly from plate to mouth ! In addition each table was set with a metal basket containing a large selection of breakfast pastries. One can only wonder how the unused bakery items were re-cycled , since during the week we witnessed numerous occasions of guests squeezing the product before making their selection !!
The location, whilst not charming, is a very convenient five minutes from the Metro station , and maybe a ten-minute walk to the Arc de Triomphe. There are various restaurants conveniently located in the neighbourhood.
During our Paris week we visited other SLH properties which appeared to satisfy the more traditional tastes if "Quirky" is not your thing!
Thank you to the hard-working staff. Peter Gallen and Ron McArthur
I thank you for your stay with us from September 20th to 27th 2013 for your comments that will help us to improve our customer satisfaction, even if they were certainly not as good as what we would have expected.
Firstly, I am pleased that all the staff was pleasant and helpful, we do our best to be available to respond to all requests from our guests with pleasure.
Regarding your arrival by taxi, Reception took in charge your luggage in the hotel but not before as you mentioned, that is truth. Reception did not have information that you arrived as we can not see directly outside the hotel from the front desk, it is a choice as we want to keep the ambiance as private and cosy as possible. When the guests are inside the hotel they are disconnected with outside and they are like inside a cocoon. You could be assured that we would help you to transport luggage from taxi into the hotel if we saw you or have the information as we did during your departure. Furthermore, as you arrived early in the morning and your room was not ready, we kept your luggage and carried them when your room was ready, when you came back to the hotel, your luggage was already in the room. I hope you appreciate this service from the staff.
Regarding the loading-dock and staff-entrance of the Meridien Hotel, most of their motions are during the day but as you know Paris is a busy city that why we take care of your environment and we are pleased that you slept well and did not hear any noise when the doors and windows were closed.
Regarding the room breakfast, this one is divided in two part. One is in the winter garden, in which you were, with low tables and sofa but the second one is just behind the glass door with normal table and sofa. Maybe this area was already used by others guest or not already cleared, if it was about the cleaning of the table, be sure if you asked to the staff, we cleared immediately a table for you. And be sure that we replaced some fresh pastries on each table after the departure of a guest.
Regarding the “quirky” aspect of the hotel, I am totally agreed with your opinion. It is deliberate, we want to be different that the other hotels, especially in Paris. Paris is one of fashion city so “Les Jardins de la Villa” is a charming contemporary hotel with the sparkle and chic of Parisian style, the refinement of countless “couture” details and discreet luxury, bold yet timeless style, witty references to the arts and nature, the atmosphere of a private home and intimate sitting rooms.
I have some feedback from the staff and everybody was glad to welcome you and help you during your stay. Pierre-Luc, our concierge, helped you for your all requires and I hope he found a solution for each.
I thank you one again for your attention to our property and for your time writing your feedback, we hope to have the pleasure to welcome you for your next stay in Paris.
With our best regards.
