In detail

Solitaire Lodge is the place for total relaxation. Sit out on your deck or balcony and experience the splendour of nature with just the gentle sound of birdsong to keep you company. Kayaks and dinghies are available to explore the lagoon and local islands. Special natural hot water pools are nearby - a year round experience to start the day. Massage services on site can easily be arranged to suit your needs.

Alternatively, from the Solitaire Lodge grounds, you can be transported to White Island, New Zealand’s active volcano by helicopter or enjoy the charm of a floatplane sightseeing trip. Lake walks are all accessible from our wharf, with a particular favourite of guests being that to the Tarawera Falls. Rotorua is 20 minutes drive and has become an adventure seekers destination, as well as the major cultural base for the Maori race with the natural thermal attractions playing a major role to attract visitors.

Executive Suite

Each Executive suite offers spectacular views overlooking historic Lake Tarawera, lavish king beds, comfortable chairs for lounging, grand picture windows and a private balcony with stunning vista. Premium Suite

Styled with comfort in mind each Premium Suite features a King-size bed, relaxing sitting room with sofa, dining room table and ensuite with spa bath. Floor to ceiling glass windows provide a breathtaking outlook of the tranquil lagoon, or glassy lake and volcanic summit of Mount Tarawera and private balconies allow for romantic sunset dining. 2-bedroom Suites are available on request, ideally suited to couples travelling together or families. Directions

Approximately 25 minutes from Rotorua. Three hours drive from Auckland. Half-hour flight from Auckland. One and a half hour's drive from Taupo. Helipad on front lawn. Driving from Auckland to Solitaire Lodge (Approximately 280 km / 3.5 hours): At the bottom of Bombay Hills where the motorway comes to an end, the main road continues on to Hamilton and Cambridge. The slip road to the left is marked Tauranga - Thames. Take the Tauranga road south and head for Matamata, then on to Tirau following state highway 27. Follow the signs to Rotorua. Driving into Rotorua onto Highway 5, turn right at the roundabout into Fairy Springs Road, proceed along Fairy Springs Road until you come to a large intersection with traffic lights, turn left into Lake Road. Continue on this road, veer right below the hospital and you are on Ranolf Street. Go to next set of lights and turn left on to Amohau Street. Continue straight ahead on Amohau Street through traffic lights (McDonalds on your right). This is now Te Ngae Road. Continue through first set of traffic lights to a large roundabout. Turn right onto Tarawera Road. Solitaire Lodge is 19 km from this turn off and signs will direct you from here. Driving from Solitaire Lodge To Huka Lodge: From Solitaire Lodge, drive back to the Roundabout and turn left into Te Ngae Road, and left again at the first set of lights into Sala Street. Go to the end of Sala Street, turn left and then follow the signs to Taupo (State Highway 5). When approaching Taupo, you will pass over a bridge with steam bores underneath, past a BP service station and the Wairakei Resort Hotel (on your left). Carry on past this settlement, up to the top of the hill. Turn left into Huka Falls Loop Road and follow this road for a couple of km until you reach the gates of Huka Lodge on your left. Driving from Taupo or Wellington To Solitaire Lodge: Follow State Highway 1 from Wellington through to Taupo, then onto state highway 5 towards Rotorua. Coming into Rotorua from Taupo, pass the Maori Arts and Crafts Centre into Fenton Street. Turn right into Sala Street at the first roundabout (Grand Tiara Hotel on corner). Continue along Sala Street until you reach a set of traffic lights. Turn right at the lights into Te Ngae Road. Take the right lane past the shops until you reach a large roundabout. Turn right onto Tarawera Road. Continue straight along this road, we are 19 km away and well sign posted from here.
