Environmentally Conscious

From a bio-fuel station where food waste is converted into bio-gas – a clean source of energy which can significantly curb the greenhouse effect - to a hydroponic farm where fresh, nutrient-rich, pesticide-free produce is grown and supplies the resort’s three dining outlets, The Racha passionately believes that luxury shouldn’t come at a cost for the environment. On land, the resort has been built in harmony with the island’s natural topography, while at sea, The Racha sponsors a group of volunteers as part of the Reefball project, which restores coral reefs damaged during the Tsunami in 2004.

Cultural Custodians

In the Land of Smiles, there is always something to celebrate. The Racha observes and honours various Thai cultural festivals throughout the year, actively encouraging guests to participate in the ceremonies while educating visitors on the significance behind the rituals for a deeper insight into Siamese culture. The coconut tree holds special symbolic meaning for the island and for The Racha, as many of the trees are the island’s original inhabitants. All the villas have been built carefully around the trees, with some coming through the terraces or through the eaves of some roofs.

Community Minded

Nestled on the small pristine island of Racha Yai just south of Phuket, The Racha keeps its fellow islanders close at heart. Much of the charm of Racha Yai is that little has changed over the years - water buffalos are still used to work the land from which organic ingredients are sourced for the hotel’s bathroom amenities, while many parts are still covered in dense forest. One of the ways in which The Racha supports the island community is by offering authentic, locally run activities, from traditional Thai cooking classes and boxing sessions to hand-line fishing with local fishermen.

How to get here

You may arrange your own transfer upon arrival at Phuket International Airport, or arrange a private transfer (subject to charges) with the hotel to get to The Racha Chalong Lounge which is located within close proximity to Chalong Pier. The hotel will contact you after your hotel booking is confirmed. The estimated travelling time is one hour from Phuket International Airport to The Racha Chalong Lounge and 30-40 minutes to The Racha by speedboat. Please note that the travelling times may vary and is subject to traffic and weather conditions.

Departure times: Chalong Pier to The Racha (Racha Yai Island) 1pm / The Racha (Racha Yai Island) to Chalong Pier 11:30am

The above schedule may change subject to flight arrival times of guests or weather and sea conditions, but the boat will not leave earlier than advertised as above in any case. For safety reasons, we do not operate the boat at night.

We recommend guests arrive at The Racha Chalong Lounge (which operates from 8am-5pm) at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled boat departure time. The Chalong Lounge offers guests a retreat to freshen up and check-in prior to boat transfers to the resort, and guests will enjoy complimentary amenities such as welcome drinks, light snacks and complimentary Wi-Fi.
