Empire Palace Hotel opened in 1999 having been a grand house once owned by a noble Venetian family. Built around a courtyard, where light meals and drinks are served, with stables at the rear, the conversion into a luxury hotel with 110 rooms and five suites is a stylish, not to say an opulent, contrast of classic and contemporary. The design works around three themes: Venice, modern art and the stars of the night. The American Bar in the converted stables has the cutting edge of space age design while the guest rooms mellow in the lustrous patina of cherry wood and hues of gold. The restaurant, Aureliano, named after the Roman Emperor, serves gourmet seasonal Mediterranean cuisine and fine wines in an aura of classic elegance.
