Baros Maldives

A tiny tropical island in a blissful shallow lagoon, Baros Maldives is a scuba diver’s paradise with a reef vibrant with marine life, warm and crystal clear waters and a PADI dive school. A fantastic selection of over-water restaurants, fashionable bars, lush vegetation and a pampering spa add to the charm of this idyllic retreat.

Thatched-roof villas, with spacious verandas, nestle on the sand or off jetties over the lagoon. All are extremely elegant with soaring teak pillars and billowing linen curtains. Some have inside and outside bathrooms in private gardens, while others have a sun deck over the water.

Experience total relaxation with the signature spa ritual aptly called Baros Indigenous Bliss. Learn how to dive from the experts and explore the reef, just 30 metres from the beach. Take a cruise aboard ‘Nooma’, a sailing boat modelled on a Maldivian dhoni, with a private staff of four.

  • An Unspoiled Horizon. The Sandbank of Baros; Your Own Exclusive Piece of Maldives The most widely accepted theory regarding sandbank formation is the Theory of Subsidence from Charles Darwin (1842). Darwin theorised that coral atolls start life as fringing reefs growing around extant oceanic volcanoes. Over millions of years the volcanoes subside creating a lagoon between the reef and the land creating first barrier reefs, then as the volcanoes completely submerge, coral atolls. The theory states that islands are formed on the reefs as the tides and currents bring dead coral and rubble onto sandbars. These are then eventually colonized by plants.
