The lodge has a number of horses and our riding manager Heather Harrington will take you for a trek during the warm days of spring. You will be introduced to your horse by name and told its habits and characteristics. They are known in New Zealand as farm hacks -- specially bred for surefootedness and endurance. The most popular trek at Grasmere suits riders of all abilities and takes you through the farm paddocks to one of the most spectacular view points on the ranch. The route then goes through tussock country around the paddocks, where riders are sometimes privileged in the spring to see some of the freshly shorn sheep and spring lambs roaming the paddocks. The horse trek is weather dependent and complimentary with a minimum three night stay in a Mountain View Junior suite or suite. Tariff includes pre dinner cocktail hour, four course dinner and full breakfast.
