A 5,500-acre working sheep station surrounded by forest, spectacular beaches, rivers, lakes and wetlands, Wharekauhau Country Estate is a haven from the outside world. It offers great dining, an extensive range of spa treatments and a fabulous choice of activities all overlooking Palliser Bay.

Retreat to your intensely romantic cottage on what is surely the grandest sheep station in New Zealand. The suites have swathes of creamy fabrics, four-poster beds, deep sofas, feature fireplaces and ocean views. There are two large detached villas for even more privacy.

Explore the classic Romney sheep station by four-wheel drive and watch sheep-shearing and sheep dogs in action. Tour the Martin borough wine-growing region and lunch in one of the local vineyards. Then, return for tennis, croquet or pétanque followed by a gourmet dinner.
