Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ Global Sales Team Strengthened by the Promotion of Jon Makhmaltchi to Vice President, Worldwide Sales

14 August 2008 – Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ (SLH) announces the promotion of Jon Makhmaltchi to the newly created position of Vice President, Worldwide Sales, which will see the luxury hotel brand forge ahead in its global sales efforts.

In his new role, Makhmaltchi will supervise SLH's worldwide sales team and will be responsible for the development of Small Luxury Hotels of the World's global sales strategy and the management of consortium partnership relations. In addition, Makhmaltchi will oversee SLH's annual programme of trade shows, road shows and events, all of which are aimed at enhancing brand awareness and increasing reservations through SLH's central booking channels. Based in SLH's New York office, Makhmaltchi will also be responsible for supervising all regional activity for the Americas.

"We are delighted to have Jon heading up the SLH global sales team," commented Paul Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. "His in-depth hotel sales experience, coupled with his genuine passion for the industry, makes him a real asset to the brand."

Makhmaltchi has been with Small Luxury Hotels of the World for four years and in that time has held various senior positions in both national and worldwide sales. Prior to joining SLH, Makhmaltchi was Director of Sales and Marketing at The Carneros Inn in Napa Valley, where he was responsible for all aspects of branding. Prior to that, he enjoyed a five year tenure with The Huntington Hotel and Nob Hill Spa (part of the brand of Small Luxury Hotels of the World) in San Francisco as Director of Sales and Marketing, where he was instrumental in managing sales, catering, reservations, public relations and annual budgets. With more than ten years in the hotel industry, Makhmaltchi has also held positions in sales, marketing and guest services with Hyatt.

The travel agent community is critical to SLH's continued success, with over 70% of reservations made via the GDS using the dedicated code ‘LX' for LuXury.  In his newly acquired role, Makhmaltchi will ensure that his worldwide team continues to build on existing relationships and develop new ones, especially in emerging markets.  Further testament to Small Luxury Hotels of the World's commitment to sales development, is the appointment of several key positions earlier this year. Dolores Bertos was appointed European Sales Manager and is responsible for enhancing SLH's sales presence in the region; with plans to grow SLH's European sales team further in the next 12 months.  In New York, Lona Gorji has been appointed National Groups and Meetings Manager, which will enable SLH to focus strongly on this important and growing sector.

In addition to the sales teams in London, Sydney and New York, Makhmaltchi is supported by teams in Latin and Central America, as well as Japan.

After spending more than a decade on the west coast, Makhmaltchi now resides in his hometown of Manhattan, where he enjoys spending time with friends and family. He involves himself with several charitable causes, including animal rescue.
