News for Louise, The

  • Appellation honoured with Wine List of the Year Award APPELLATION RESTAURANT BAROSSA VALLEY WINS ‘WINE LIST OF THE YEAR’ AWARD FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA Appellation restaurant, based in Australia’s Barossa Valley wine region, was named today as the 2008 recipient of the South Australia state award for “Wine List of the Year.” The award was presented to Appellation restaurant manager Ruby Stobart, executive chef Mark McNamara and proprietor Jim Carreker at a reception in Sydney’s Art Gallery New South Wales by representatives of Fine Wine Partners and Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, sponsors of this prestigious national award program. In assessing all applicants for the awards, the jury of 13 international judges led by chief judge Peter Forrestal reviewed each wine list on the criteria of content, balance, suitability, presentation and pricing. Appellation was given a “three glass” rating (the highest level). Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine noted that, “Appellation skilfully treads the fine line between regional focus and a greater world view and has set the benchmark by which all other wine region lists can be judged.” This success follows on from Appellation having been recognised by the Restaurant and Catering Association SA as “Best Regional Restaurant” only a week earlier. Appellation is now enjoying state and national recognition at a level often reserved for larger capital city establishments. Co-located at The Louise, Barossa Valley, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the WorldTM, Appellation is an intimate 28-seat culinary destination. The creation of Appellation’s monthly changing 9-course signature tasting menu is inspired by the selection of six exceptional Barossa wines, and is a highlight of the restaurant’s dining experience. The restaurant also features a nightly varying à la carte menu and wines from the 400 selection award-winning list. Opportunities to dine at Appellation and stay overnight at The Louise luxury vineyard retreat are one of the most sought after special experiences in the Barossa.
  • The Louise, National Tourism Award for Luxury Accommodation BAROSSA’S “THE LOUISE” SECURES NATIONAL AWARD FOR TOP LUXURY ACCOMMODATION IN AUSTRALIA Canberra (29 February 2008) --- South Australia’s five-star luxury vineyard retreat The Louise has been named national winner of the “Luxury Accommodation” award at the 2007 Qantas Tourism Awards ceremony in the nation’s capitol. This is the top award in the most prestigious accommodation category among the overall 25 national awards announced at this year’s gala event. In accepting the award, Jim Carreker, owner and managing director of The Louise and the co-located award winning restaurant Appellation noted, “We are pleased tonight for the national recognition of the Barossa, and that highly desirable, authentic visitor experiences at the high-end of the tourism range are to be found in regional Australia. When we moved to Australia five years ago to create one of the world’s great vineyard retreats, we identified that the Barossa was a perfect area in which to develop a destination restaurant and luxurious accommodation. We are appreciative that the National Tourism Alliance and this year’s award judges have confirmed that this vision is now being passionately implemented at The Louise.” The property’s general manager, Penny Rafferty, also was present to accept the award in Canberra and has observed that this special honour is shared among the 40 staff members of The Louise and Appellation, whose local knowledge and keen enthusiasm have contributed to the creation of a very special guest experience for visitors to the Barossa and South Australia. “Delivery of memorable, authentic, well-executed experiences is at the heart of quality, sustainable tourism, and our team dedicate themselves to this every day”. Mark McNamara, executive chef at Appellation adds his observation that frequently guests while dining have remarked about the quality of produce in the Barossa and what a unique combination the region represents with many of Australia’s best wines co-located with world-class fresh, local, seasonal cuisine. The Louise is a fifteen suite retreat sited on a gentle hilltop near the village of Marananga overlooking the vineyards of the Barossa Valley. It is a blend of absolute privacy, inspired design, memorable dining and a beautiful location in the heart of the world renowned Barossa wine region.
