The romantic story behind the resort began in 1903, when a wealthy Englishman fell in love with the mountain and lakeside setting and built the manor for his bride. In many senses, the idyll continues, inspiring the Oscar-winning Hepburn and Fonda film ‘On Golden Pond’.

Enjoy tea and dreamy end-of-day reveries in the library, or alternatively retreat to the excellent restaurant. The cuisine is probably the finest in the region, complemented by a celebrated cellar. However, despite the excellent spa, golf, skiing, lawn games and water sports, perhaps the best way to enjoy The Manor on Golden Pond is fireside after dinner, with a large port and entertaining company.
