Here’s a selection of the new properties to join Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ (SLH):
Pikaia Lodge, Santa Cruz Island, the Galapagos. Opening September 2014
The first SLH property in Ecuador, Pikaia Lodge is a carbon-neutral lodge in the centre of the Galapagos Island, Santa Cruz, representing the next step in the evolution of luxury eco-adventure. Set on the crater of an extinct volcano, 450 metres above sea level, the 14 rooms and villas of Pikaia Lodge provide one of the most spectacular views on the Galapagos, taking in mountains, forests, volcanoes and the sea, enabling guests the opportunity to explore the fascinating natural heritage of the Galapagos Islands while staying in sheer comfort. The hotel operates daily land and sea tours on its private yacht, has its own giant tortoise reserve as well as a beautiful pool, gourmet restaurant, bar and relaxing spa.
Tiara Miramar Beach Hotel, Theoule-Sur-Mer, France. Opening April 2014
A stylish renovation confirms the Tiara Miramar as one of the most graceful and glamorous places to stay on the French Riviera. Nestled amid the red rocks of the Esterel Mountains and sandy coves, the hotel is just minutes from Cannes’ famous Croisette, although its position overlooking the French resort's sand and sea invites guests to enjoy the local charm without even having to leave the hotel. Large panoramic windows offer classic views over the Mediterranean Sea, while its private beach area and stunning terrace are great water-side sun spots. It also boasts an excellent spa and rejuvenating sauna, and a gourmet dining room serving fine flavours from Provence.
Casas Del XVI, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Opening March 2014
Casas Del XVI is a collection of restored colonial homes dating back to the sixteenth century and located in the heart of the historic centre of Santo Domingo, the UNESCO-listed World Heritage site Ciudad Colonial. The three houses maintain original architectural features and include local works of art, ancient Dominican artefacts and carved wood furniture to reflect the area’s historical and cultural importance. Two of the properties have a central courtyard, perfect for outdoor dining, while Casa de los Mapas has a courtyard pool, and all properties have a butler at their service and access to the on-site library and art gallery.
Cromlix and Chex Roux Perthshire, Scotland. Opening April 2014.
Cromlix and Chez Roux is SLH’s first Scottish country retreat and the new hotel venture of the British multiple Grand Slam title winner and Olympic tennis champion, Andy Murray. The Victorian mansion has undergone a major refurbishment and now has 15 luxury rooms and suites, each individually designed and named after great Scots of the past and present. Its restaurant is overseen by famed Chef Albert Roux (OBE, KFO) and serves classical French cuisine prepared by a Scottish chef with local ingredients. The 34 acre Cromlix estate, and its neighbouring countryside, offers plenty of rural pursuits for guests to enjoy the great outdoors during their stay, including clay pigeon shooting, archery, fishing in its very own loch, as well as quad biking and 4x4 off road driving for speed seekers. Those guests with an urge to follow Murray’s triumphs can head to the brand new tennis court and practice wall to run through their ball skills.
Dormy House Hotel Broadway, United Kingdom. New House Spa opening February 2014
SLH’s third property in the Cotswold countryside, the newly-refurbished Dormy House is a honey-hued farmhouse dating back to the 17th century with interiors that epitomise the term country chic. While there’s plenty on offer around the hotel from two indulgent dining options, scenic country walks and roaring log fires, guests will find it hard to leave its brand new House Spa. Featuring a spectacular candle-lit indoor infinity pool, lavender infusion sauna, bubble bath hydro pool, not-to-mention luxurious face and body treatments, Dormy House’s newest addition puts a new meaning to a relaxing break in the countryside.
