Introducing Xuzhou

Famously the halfway point between bustling Beijing and sleek Shanghai, Xuzhou is a city break destination in its own right. With forest parks, scenic mountains and peaceful lakes, this is a place where you can truly unwind.

Things to do

ACTIVITIES
Spend a day exploring Yunlong Lake. Head to the Lakeside Park area to cool off on a sandy beach, take a dip or take in the views from the Sugong lookout tower. It’s even home to the largest freshwater aquarium in Asia. You can even scuba dive in one or two of the tanks. But whether you stay on dry land or swim with the sharks, a visit here is sure to be a highlight of your trip.

HISTORY
Once home to the first emperor of the Han dynasty, Xuzhou has its very own Museum of Terracotta Warriors. And though it’s smaller than Xi’an’s, it has equally fascinating and unique qualities. To explore more of the city’s Han heritage, visit the Xuzhou Museum, with its eerie tombs and ancient relics.

NATURE
Known as the ‘natural oxygen bar’, Quanshan National Forest Park is a breath of fresh air high up in the mountains. Walk through a cloud of perfume in The Peony Garden. Admire the deep green forest that keeps its vibrant colours all year-round. And spot one of the 150 rare bird species, from the golden pheasant to the red-crowned crane. From this botanical garden in the sky, the hubbub of the city will feel a world away.

Top Tip from SLH

Xuzhou’s Pixian County is the birthplace of martial arts. So if you’re thinking of brushing up on your skills, you’ve come to the right place.
