The quintessential New York village – and loved by Halloweeners everywhere.
Things to do
Railroad baron Jay Gould lived in Tarrytown, and his mansion Lyndhurst is now owned by the National Historic Trust. It’s well worth a visit – you’ll find themed events that are fun for all the family throughout the year.
The Old Croton Aqueduct passes through the iconic landscape of New York State. You can walk along this old railway line, or hire bikes from your luxury hotel and escape into the countryside.
Tarrytown’s neighbouring village, Sleepy Hollow, featured in a renowned ghost story by Washington Irving, and a film by Tim Burton. As Halloween approaches, the locals hold spooky events to get everyone good and frightened – so October here can be a treat.
On the third Friday of every month there are special events along Main Street, discounts in restaurants and live music. Many shops and galleries open late too.
