Settle into your luxury retreat, surrounded by vineyards and reflect on the fact that you are in the very heart of the world’s greatest wine region – Bordeaux. The nearby city is lined with grandiose buildings and medieval marvels and the rich countryside is lined with row upon row of vines.
Beautiful boulevards, awe-inspiring architecture and wine tasting nirvana.
Things to do
Bordeaux is a name that conjures such powerful images of great wines that it’s easy to overlook the wonderful city that bears the name. Much of the historic centre is now a World Heritage Site, packed with treasures such as the great Romanesque Basilique Saint Seurin and beautifully carved, medieval Cathédrale Saint André. Don’t miss the fabulous cafés and restaurants that nestle on every street at a slightly lower level.
Bordeaux is home to Europe’s longest shopping street – Rue de Saint Catherines. Great designer names and chic brands jostle for attention, especially in the area known as the ‘triangle’. Equally, Bordeaux is a fantastic centre for local produce and the authentically artisan.
FOOD & DRINK
Bordeaux is, of course, the epitome of fine dining and world-class wine. Near your luxury hotel you’ll find evocative names such as Medoc, St. Emilion and Graves. Book a private wine tasting session at one of the region’s famed vineyards. Or explore the city’s markets and enjoy fresh oysters and local cheeses on the banks of the river.
For a unique birds eye view of the city, go to the tower of Saint Michel – the climb is well worth it for the spectacular vista.
