Things to do
A stretch of golden sand that can only be reached on foot, Tzamaria beach is wonderfully secluded. You could while away the day sunbathing. Or don a snorkel to spot fish in the rocky seabed.
While Tzamaria is ideal for quiet days on the shore, nearby Mylopotas beach is the place to go for watersports. There’s a sheltered bay that’s ideal for trying windsurfing or waterskiing. While kayaks line up on the sand, ready for you to explore the coast at your own pace. You can also rent a boat and set out to find your own private cove.
Each May, Ios honours the legendary poet Homer with a three-day festival of music, dance and poetry performances. But whatever time of year you visit, it’s sure to coincide with one of the lively saint’s day celebrations, held on beaches and in churches across Ios. With feasts, live music and dancing, they’re a great way to experience traditional island culture.
Take part in an ancient cultural tradition and catch a concert at the Odysseas Elytis amphitheatre, overlooking Chora town.
