Things to do
FOOD
The delis in Alassio overflow with fresh pastries and pasta, fragrant olives and oil. Savour a simple panino on the beach for lunch, leaving room for seafood feasts and farinata, the local chickpea-flour pizza. Gelaterias jostle with bakeries, their windows full of sumptuous treats. Try the town’s signature Baci d’Alassio – sweet macaroons sandwiching a chocolate centre.
BEACHES
With 3km of gently sloping sand, Alassio has one of the longest beaches on the Italian Riviera. Time slows, with days spent relaxing in the shade of an umbrella or cooling off in the clear sea. As the sun sinks below the horizon, go barefoot to the shore-side bars for an aperitif before dinner – until your luxury beach retreat beckons.
WATER
Colourful fishing boats bob alongside sleek yachts, and elegant speedboats cut white swathes across the blue bay. With its small port and host of water sports, Alassio is your gateway to exploring the coastline. Break the surface with a snorkel, or skip along the waves on a jet ski. From every angle, the water around Alassio is just wonderful.
