Things to do
HISTORY
Leicestershire – and Leicester in particular – was an important Roman settlement. Explore archaeological finds from this ancient era at the Jewry Wall Museum. Outside of town, the countryside boasts many stately homes, including the grand Stanford Hall. Take some time to discover one of the county’s hidden gems – the rare Anglo Saxon carvings at the church of St Mary and St Hardulph in the village of Breedon-on-the-hill.
ARTS & CULTURE
Leicestershire is home to many exciting arts venues. Catch innovative liver performances at the striking Curve Theatre in Leicester’s cultural quarter. View expressionist artworks at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery. Or, for something a little different, visit Kilworth House for an evening of live music in the outdoor amphitheatre – set in a wooded glade.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES
There are plenty of options in Leicestershire for a day out with the family. One of Leicester’s star attractions is the National Space Centre. Here you can learn about life as an astronaut and watch a fascinating show at the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium. Or you could stroll around Ashby-de-La-Zouch castle. Kids will love exploring these impressive ruins, which was once a 12th-century manor house.
