START IN STYLE: IBIZA

A short drive from Ibiza airport will bring you to the historic hub of this party island. Step back in time and discover UNESCO World Heritage Site Dalt Vila. This town is brimming with ancient artefacts and old-world wonders at every turn. Enter by crossing the drawbridge through the Portal de Ses Taules. Then weave your way through cobbled streets up to the battlements by the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows. From here, marvel at ocean views and red-tiled domes topping ancient churches beneath.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS…

Close to Ibiza town, Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay claims Cala Talamanca beach all to itself. Sip an expertly-crafted cocktail brought to you by your on-call mixologist. Or watch the yachts on the horizon from the freshwater pool. Further up the coast, Hotel Aguas de Ibiza Lifestyle offers a taste of laid-back island living in a lesser-known corner of Ibiza. Unwind with a treatment at Revival Spa by Clarins, or seek serenity in the lush gardens. Suggested stay, 4 nights.

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES: MALLORCA

Glittering stretches of coastline. Historic hilltop towns. And endless roads that snake through rugged mountains. Mallorca is as much about adventure as it is about beach dwelling.

It’s well worth hiring a car to explore this island’s best bits. The road to Cala de Sa Calobra and Cala Tuent is an experience in itself, with plenty of dramatic views and hairpin bends. This is the ultimate training ground for keen cyclists. Although you’d have to push seriously hard to beat Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins’ time – a thigh-burning 26 minutes.

Within the picturesque hills of Serra de Tramuntana sits the town of Sóller – best reached by vintage train from Palma. Stroll along the port for photo-ops of Amalfi-esque houses tumbling down hills. Peruse the works of Picasso and Miró in the galleries. Or venture into the mountains for scenic hikes with heart-snaring views.

ISLAND HIDEAWAYS

Spend your evenings at Cap Rocat, a beautifully refurbished 19th-century fortress turned adults-only hotel. Traditional features, from classic furnishings to a drawbridge, blend seamlessly with contemporary touches. It even has its own private beach, spectacular infinity pool and underground spa.

Place yourself at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Serra de Tramuntana mountains at Gran Hotel Son Net. Enjoy long dinners in their gourmet restaurant and a swim in their stunning outdoor pool.

Or, if you’d rather stay in the heart of the action book a stay in central Palma - curved around a beautiful bay and buzzing with life, it’s easy to see why Palma has been a favourite with the rich and famous for centuries. See (and be seen) as you stroll tree-lined promenades, shop in designer boutiques or dive into the city’s hip nightlife. Or step back in time and discover grand palaces and ancient cathedrals, before pulling up a chair in a bodega for a taste of tapas culture.

Unpack your suitcase at Sant Francesc Hotel Singular. This historic manor house has a rooftop pool overlooking the ancient streets and gothic cathedral. Suggested stay, 5 nights.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: MENORCA

When you think of Menorca, wild landscapes and laid-back living come to mind. Move at the leisurely pace of the island itself and spend days basking on some of the Balearic’s most beautiful beaches. Worth the 15-minute stroll from the car park, Cala en Turqueta boasts impossibly turquoise waters that lap sugar-white shores. Or edge further up the south coast to Cala Macarella a smaller beach with cliffs rising up from the edges of its bright blue waters.

Another untouched beauty on the south coast is Cala Mitjana – while out-of-the-way, this popular spot can get crowded, so be sure to get there early to secure a spot. There’s sometimes even a local vendor who walks the beach, selling fresh fruit from a wheelbarrow.

UNPACK YOUR BAGS

A set of restored 19th-century farmhouses with ancient archaeological foundations, Torralbenc is a traditional Menorcan finca that’s perfect for a secluded country escape. From the whitewashed walls of this hotel, give in to ultimate relaxation as you’re wrapped in rolling countryside and views of the Mediterranean. Suggested stay, 5 nights.
