Things to do

FOOD & DRINK

Literary fans should head to Bewley’s. This landmark of Dublin café culture has been the haunt of many writers, including James Joyce. On chilly evenings it’s hard to beat a bowl of steaming Irish stew served with a side of champ. Or, for a more refined treat, sample fresh, local oysters. Of course, don’t leave without enjoying a pint of the ‘black stuff’ – Guinness is brewed here and is a big part of Dublin’s proud heritage.

SHOPPING

For retail therapy with a dash of luxury, Grafton Street’s Brown Thomas won’t disappoint. This elegant department store carries lines from a number of well-known designers. Temple Bar Farmer’s Market is the place to pick up delicious, local produce. If it’s whiskey you’re after, book a private tour of the Jameson’s Distillery and choose from the collection in the on-site shop.

DAY TRIPS

There’s a wealth of cultural landmarks and rolling green countryside to explore with Dublin as your base. Travel out to craggy Blarney Castle, where you can kiss the famed Blarney Stone. Those craving the great outdoors will love The Wicklow Way. Ireland’s oldest waymarked trail starts in Dublin and passes lakes, waterfalls and picturesque villages along its 79-mile route.

Don’t leave Dublin without spending time in a proper Irish pub. Whether you’re seeking a quiet evening or a lively atmosphere, you’ll have over 1000 to choose from.
