For more than 35 years, we have celebrated the people behind every stay, curating a collection of more than 700 independently owned boutique hotels across 100+ countries. Our Story

In 1984, the owner of the legendary nightclub Studio 54 coined the phrase ‘Boutique Hotel’. By 1990, SLH turned that phrase into a phenomenon.

Over the last three decades we’ve taken things global. From our reputation to our reach, our mindset to our membership, our brand to our benefits.

We’ve created the most desirable and valuable community of independently minded travellers and independently spirited hotels in the world.

We’ve personally visited, vetted and verified over 700 boutique hotels in more than 100 countries. They’re small, perfectly formed and independently owned. Most have no more than 50 rooms. Some have been in the same family for generations. All are anti-chain and anti-same. From the refined to the revered, the iconic to the idiosyncratic.
