Introducing Hua Hin

The original Thai beach resort is also a delightful cosmopolitan centre brimming with colourful markets, delicious street food and royal summer residences. Around its edge there are idyllic beaches and sleepy villages to explore. Enjoy a city break and wave-lapped escape all in one.

Things to do

HISTORY
Visit Phra Ratchawang Klai Kangwon, a summer residence built by royals to enjoy the refreshing maritime weather. It’s also known as the ‘far from worries palace’ – a name that has been adopted by the town as a whole. The royal roots of Hua Hin go back to the 1920s, when Kings Rama VI and Rama VII built grand palaces here.

BEACHES
Step out from your luxury hotel in Hua Hin and you’ll be on beautiful white-sand bays. Relax on the 7km stretch of Hua Hin Beach and wait for the flame red sunset. Khao Takiab Beach is watched over by a golden temple – not to mention its playful troupe of resident macaques.

DAY TRIPS
If you can bear to leave your luxury beach resort, take a day trip to nearby Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park – known locally as ‘Three Hundred Mountain Peaks’. Explore mangrove forests, limestone cliffs and spot exotic birds like the White-bellied Eagle. But don’t miss the caves. Sunlight pierces these cavernous natural wonders part of the day and they seem to glow. In Phraya Nakhon Cave you’ll come across an ornate royal pavilion.

Top Tip from SLH

Wander the mouth watering Night Market – a culinary favourite with locals for simple, fresh or high-end treats.
