WHEN TO GO
Deciding when to visit Germany depends entirely on your travel plans. From May to September it’s gloriously warm and sunny, and the beer gardens are bustling. Spring and autumn tend to be milder and generally quieter, and the countryside is at its most colourful. Winter’s a good time to escape to the mountain resorts for a spot of skiing, or to plan a luxury city break when the queues to Germany’s many cultural attractions are usually shorter.
The German calendar is filled with festivals. From Christmas markets to Rhineland carnivals, and celebrations of lights, film and sailing in between, you’ll never be far from an event.
