Things to do

LANDMARKS
With its dazzling majolica dome, Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta is the focal point of Positano. It’s just as impressive inside, with classical architecture and a striking icon of the Madonna. If you’re feeling energetic, climb the step-lined hill to Montepertuso. At the top, look for the hollow in the mount this hamlet is named after – legend says it’s the Virgin Mary’s fingerprint.

NATURE
To see the Amalfi Coast from on high, travel the ‘Path of the Gods’. It’s one of the region’s best-loved hiking routes and you can pick it up from Nocelle – a tiny hamlet above Positano. Meandering past lemon groves, woodland and old vineyards, this trail will reward you with heavenly coastal views. As you walk, look out for birds nesting in the cliffs and wild orchids that bloom in spring.

BEACHES
Spiaggia Grande has always been the place to see and be seen. With the village clinging to the cliffs behind you and azure seas in front, it’s a blissful curve of sand. If you prefer your beach a little quieter, wander along the coastal path to Fornillo. Or rent a boat and trace the shoreline, discovering secret bays as you go.

Top Tip from SLH

Positano might be small but its boutiques are big on style – attracting fashionistas for decades. Look out for hand-made leather sandals for the beach, or ceramics to take home.
