Introducing Rome

For a city break in a boutique hotel, Rome is the place to be with its "dolce vita". Enjoy a gelato as you wander through this living museum – a city that’s peppered with ancient monuments and renowned works of art. Stroll through the elegant Villa Borghese, discovering secret gardens, serene pools and temples as you go. Sip espresso on the bustling and beautiful Piazza Navona. And before you leave, toss a coin into the Trevi fountain – legend says you’ll return to Rome if you do.

Things to do

When in Rome, you’ll find archaeological wonders and world-famous sights seemingly on every corner. You could marvel at the skeletons of Roman temples in the Forum, the heart of the ancient city. Then picture the gladiators of old in battle at the awe-inspiring Colloseum. Stand beneath the oculus of the Pantheon, admiring its incredible architecture, and you’ll be bathed in light.

Escape inside a place of worship in Rome and be sure to look up – this where you’re likely to see one of the city’s celebrated ceiling frescoes. The most famous of which is, of course, Michelangelo’s. Step inside the quiet confines of the Sistine Chapel to see his Renaissance masterpiece in all its glory. Or simply stroll around the city and you’ll soon encounter world-renowned works – from paintings by ‘bad boy’ Caravaggio in one of Rome’s many churches to Bernini’s Four Rivers Fountain in Piazza Navona.

Savour artichokes, stuffed with breadcrumbs, garlic and herbs. Or bruschetta, topped with tomatoes and shavings of salty Pecorino. But leave room for Gnocchi alla Romana. These soft semolina dumplings are baked with butter and cheese for a divine melt-in-the-mouth treat. Pair it all with a glass of chilled Frascati.
