Introducing Estoril

Just 20 miles from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon, the resort of Estoril seems like it’s a world away from city life. Secluded hills look out onto the Atlantic, while beach umbrellas wait for you to take up position and worship the Portuguese sun.

Things to do

GOLF
The Estoril Golf Course is a challenging one, with some stunning scenery as a backdrop while you practice your putting. Not far from the area’s luxury hotels, you can play a round of golf then enjoy a cooling drink as you look out onto the Atlantic.

BEACHES
The coastline here is pristine. Tamariz beach has rows of elegant sun loungers and umbrellas, and there are plenty of restaurants and ice cream parlours too. Or take to the water and explore beneath the waves. You’ll find a number of places offering to rent snorkelling and kayaking equipment along the front at Estoril.

CULTURE
Chic Estoril is a favourite with royals and celebrities, and the home of a flourishing casino. It was even the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale. Don your tuxedo and channel your inner James Bond. Or simply sip a cocktail and watch others stake at the gambling tables.

Top Tip from SLH

If you’re travelling to Cascais you can take a train from Lisbon, or alight at Estoril. A promenade above the beach takes you all the way to Cascais, and it’s a pleasant 20-minute walk the rest of the way.
